Project title: Development of a Pilot-Scale Continuous Production Process for Perchloromethyl Mercaptan (PCMM), a Key Intermediate for Crop Protection Fungicides, and for Thiophosgene Used in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing.
Project Objectives: The objective of the project is to develop a continuous process for the production of perchloromethyl mercaptan (PCMM), an intermediate used in industrial technologies for the manufacture of fungicides applied in the protection of orchards and other agricultural crops, as well as in the production of thiophosgene, for which the Institute is the sole producer in Europe and one of only a few producers worldwide. During the project, laboratory studies of the PCMM synthesis and purification stages will be carried out. Based on the results obtained, design assumptions will be developed for the construction of a pilot-scale installation together with the required auxiliary systems and facilities.
