- Scientific research and development work in the field of: chemistry and technology of high-energy materials, including explosives, solid rocket propellants, pyrotechnic and blasting agents, chemical safety related to the production, distribution, and use of chemical substances and preparations, as well as the study of hazards caused by the occurrence of static electricity, and methods of antistatic protection.
- Small-scale production of explosives, gas generators, and solid rocket propellant modifiers for the needs of the domestic defence industry.
- R&D work in the field of national defence and security.
- Research, classification, and certification of hazardous materials in accordance with RID/ADR regulations.
Field of activity:
- Scientific research and development work in the field of: chemistry and technology of biologically active substances and the plant protection agents, pharmaceuticals, sanitary hygiene products, veterinary medicinal products, biocidal products, auxiliary agents (fine chemicals) for various industries, and organic semi-products, primarily for the needs of light organic synthesis.
- Research on the physical-chemical properties of substances and chemical mixtures, including plant protection agents and biocidal products.
- Small-scale production of chemical substances for agriculture, as well as the chemical, pharmaceutical, and defence industries.
The Branch in Pszczyna conducts scientific research, development, and implementation works in the areas of:
- toxicology,
- ecotoxicology,
- fate and behavior in the environment,
- physical-chemical properties
in determining the degree of hazard coming from chemical substances, their mixtures, and biological substances to the warm-blooded organisms and the environment.
The studies are conducted within the framework of national and European projects, and joint research projects implemented in cooperation with scientific institutions and industrial companies.

Over 70 years of experience
The history of Łukasiewicz – Institute of Industrial Organic Chemistry (Łukasiewicz – IPO) dates back to the late 1940s.
In 1947, as part of the Main Institute of Mechanics, the Institute of Explosive Materials was established, which served as the foundation for the creation of the Institute of Applied Chemistry on January 1, 1952. Later, on January 1, 1958, after the merger of the Institute of Applied Chemistry with the Institute of Dyes and Intermediates, the Institute of Industrial Organic Chemistry was formed.
Since April 1, 2019, the Institute has been part of the Łukasiewicz Research Network and operates under its current name.

The date of creation of the Institute of Explosive Materials in Warsaw and the Experimental-Research Station in Pszczyna.
1952
The date of creation of the Institute of Applied
Chemistry.
1955
The date of creation of Branch in Krupski Młyn
1957
The Experimental Research Station is being replaced by the Institute of Industrial Organic Chemistry, Branch Pszczyna.
1958
The merger of two institutes results in the creation of the Institute of Industrial Organic Chemistry in Warsaw.

Our patron
The patron of our research network is Ignacy Łukasiewicz, born in 1822 in Zaduszniki – Polish pharmacist, entrepreneur, social and patriotic activist, philanthropist and pioneer of the oil industry.
1852
Łukasiewicz, together with Jan Zeh, carried out the world’s first distillation of crude oil using scientific methods.
1853
The first operation using artificial light was carried out in a Lviv hospital. The light was Ignacy Łukasiewicz’s kerosene lamp.
1854
Together with T. Trzecieski, Łukasiewicz founded the first oil mine in Bóbrka near Krosno.
1856
He founded the world’s first oil distillery in Ulaszowice near Jasło.
2022
The Sejm of the Republic of Poland declared 2022 the Year of Ignacy Łukasiewicz
